About the company – Transforming procurement and logistics efficiently
Stadtwerke München GmbH (SWM) is one of the largest municipal utilities in Germany and a pioneer in the field of sustainable and efficient energy management. As part of the NextLevEL project, SWM has initiated a far-reaching transformation of its purchasing and logistics department in order to meet the challenges of the future. The aim was to streamline the organization in a way that enables focused and productive work.
The task – A visual mission statement for the transformation of the purchasing and logistics department
With the implementation of NextLevEL, SWM not only wanted to modernize its purchasing and logistics organization, but also take its employees along on this journey. One major challenge was to make the complex changes understandable and motivating. This is where the Big Picture came in: It had to convey a clear vision of the transformation, make the individual areas of action and specific changes understandable and place the changes in the context of the overarching strategic direction.

The implementation – the transformation phases visualized
The Big Picture was conceived as a multi-level visual representation that illustrates the transformation of SWM’s purchasing and logistics department in various phases.
SWM’s goal is clear: purchasing and logistics will be fully digital, strategically aligned and sustainable. Modern technologies and automation will make processes more efficient and transparent. The focus is on strategic partnerships and sustainable value creation to ensure long-term security of supply. The purchasing organization acts with foresight, uses AI-supported analyses and enables seamless digital procurement – making it a pioneer in public procurement.
With the Big Picture, SWM now has an effective visual tool that makes the transformation of procurement and logistics tangible at a glance. It serves as an orientation aid to communicate the strategic realignment to all target groups in an inspiring and understandable way – from employees to internal stakeholders and external partners. This actively supports the change process and brings the shared vision to life.

The Big Picture has given us a clear and inspiring visualization of our transformation. It helps us to communicate our strategy in an understandable way and actively involve our employees in the change process. In just a few weeks, together with the Big Pictury team, we have created a valuable tool with which we can communicate our transformation journey in a sustainable way.
